Watersports and beaches in Roermond
Roermond is surrounded by waters, making it an ideal and much-loved place for water sports and nature lovers. There are plenty of opportunities for water recreation in Roermond. The rivers the Roer, the Maas and surrounding Maas lakes, in Dutch Maasplassen, (an interconnected network of large and small lakes that were created by gravel extraction) really invite you to spend a day on the water. The city has numerous marinas, several beaches like Palm Beach Roermond, and trendy beach clubs. And all are within walking distance of Roermond city centre. With an area of around 3,000 hectares, they actually form the largest contiguous water sports area in the Netherlands.
Get out on the water 🚤
Do you have your own boat or would you like to rent one? The vast Maasplassen offer countless scenic boating routes, allowing you to easily sail from one lake to another. Stop at a beach club along the way or cruise directly to the Roerkade, where cosy terraces, shops and the historic city centre are just a few steps away.
Even without your own boat, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the water. Rent a motorboat, canoe, kayak or a unique BBQ Donut from one of the rental providers in and around Roermond. No boating licence is required to rent a motorboat, and you can take the helm yourself from the age of 18.
Explore the interactive water map for all information about boating routes, mooring spots and facilities around the Maasplassen and an overview of the marinas.
City cruise🚢
Discover the city of Roermond and the beautiful Maasplassen, the largest continuous water sports area in the Netherlands. To really experience how big the Maasplassen area is and to enjoy your outing in a relaxed way, we highly recommend a city cruise (70 minutes). You can step aboard in the centre of Roermond, at the Roerkade.
During school holidays, the shipping company sails daily and in summer often several times a day. After a cruise, you can go for a wonderful meal or drink in the restaurants and cafés on the waterfront near the Roerkade. The city cruise does not sail from November till February.
